     Hal Zesch - 10/16/2007

Where do you work and what do you do?

I work in Information Services at Valero and do whatever Valero needs for me to do.  I have been blessed by my loving wife Amy, our 4 wonderful children, many good co-workers and friends, and a great place to work.  I am an old timer, having been at Valero since 1975.

    When did you start riding?

This past summer, in August.  My riding is a tribute to the Velo Valero team.  They have been so accepting and patient with me, showing me the most basic things that I didn't know.  They even welcomed the only person you will see with a hybrid bike and tennis shoes (and who has no business wearing those tight bicycle outfits).  They are a fun group to be with.  Peter leads them well.  For example, this past Saturday I gave out after 42 miles and didn't think I was going to make it to 50 miles.  David Gross and Jacque Robertson slowed down for me, encouraged me, and we laughed our way through it all.  We ended up making 77 miles and it was all due to David and Jacque's encouragement and support.

What made you want to do the MS 150?

I have seen what multiple sclerosis does to people.  We need to work together to help the people suffering from it and hopefully to stop it.  Valero and the Velo Valero team combine a great cause with a very good time.

How much training are you doing?

I ride with the team on Saturdays and usually ride the spin bikes 5 days a week for 1 - 1 1/2 hours per day.

Glad to have you on the team Hal, and see you on the road to Corpus Christi!
