Our new rider of the week is Tanya Carrasco, who works at Valero HQ in San Antonio in the OD department. Like her friend and riding buddy Megan Lehnhoff, she's a graduate of the Wheelmen Rider Education Series. The San Antonio Tour de Cure on May 16-17 will be her first big organized ride.
Where do work and what do you do?
I work in Organizational Development & Training as the department assistant. I help out all the groups within our department and serve as support to my boss, Miya Maysent.
Any other personal info you want to share?
My husband and I have been married for ~2 ½ years and we just bought our first home so we have been very busy!! My hobbies include yoga, cycling, cooking, shopping and camping.
When did you start riding?
I started riding in February of this year with the six week San Antonio Wheelman Rider Education Series (RES). I really enjoyed this class, the instructors taught me how to utilize ALL my gears when riding hills and I also became more comfortable riding in groups and sharing the road with cars.
What made you want to join Velo Valero and ride the Tour de Cure?
Megan Lehnhoff! If it wasn’t for Megan and her triumphant fundraising efforts for the 2007 MS150 I would have never even thought of cycling as a sport. Megan kept all her donors updated weekly with the training involved in her preparation and you would think that stories of 50-70 mile rides where she was chased by terrifying dogs would scare me out of even thinking of joining her, but it didn’t and now the MS150 is my 2008 goal.
How much training are you doing?
Not nearly enough! I am currently riding about 30 miles on the weekends but I would like to start doing more rides during the week day evenings.
...Glad to have you on the team, Tanya, and look forward to seeing you on the road during the Tour de Cure this year!
