Our new rider of the week is Edie Wellemeyer, I/S Specialist from the Krotz Springs refinery.
First of all, where do work and what do you do?
I work at the Krotz Springs Refinery in the IS department. For fun there’s Japanese Embroidery and now cycling.
When did you start riding? I started last November (2007).
What made you want to join Velo Valero and ride the Tour de Cure? Kudos to Phillip Williams for stopping by my office to tell me about the MS150. He was so pumped up and excited about it…his enthusiasm was contagious and I got bit by the biking bug.
How much training are you doing? Not enough! Doing good to get in 5-10 mile rides during the week. Hoping for longer ones on the weekends.
Any other comments? This is more of a personal challenge for me. When I first started 10 minutes was it and I was gasping for air. Now I can ride an hour before breathing heavy. I ride to get healthy and to raise awareness. Diabetes runs in my family. I've watched the toll it has taken on my family and I want to do anything I can to help.
...Glad to have you on the team, Edie, and I look forward to riding with you, Monika, and the rest of the Krotz Springs team during the Baton Rouge Tour de Cure on may 31st!
