There should be a warning on email like this "Grab a box of Kleenex before reading" there is no way you can read this with out getting emotional. Very inspirational, and it's what makes all of us ride for these worthy causes. This should be printed and posted on our "Cycling Wall of Fame"

You have achieved something no one or no Bike to the Beach team has ever achieved before. Velo Valero has achieved greatness, not for the team, not for Valero, but greatness in the fight against a terrible disease.

Peter: Thanks for the passion and energy you've brought to the team - looking at the fundraising graph, that's the kind of hill we love to climb, and your leadership is no small part of that achievement. I really like it - got it a few years ago, and really didn't start riding it until this summer when my son got a mountain bike also. It's a hardtail and doesn't have disc breaks, but for the mountain biking I do it's been adequate. I got it for $300 new, but with the price of steel going up, I'm sure it's much higher...

I see you ride a TREK 4300, I have one or my son does and it has been in my garage since he bought it and he only rode it twice, and that was on the road. Now I'm thinking of taking it out on some of the trails here, and just wondered how you got on with the bike?

It was a great ride Saturday. Great pace, scenery and weather. And don't forget that fabulous 12 miles of chipseal between Yancey and Hondo.

Yes - only the San Antonio ride. There's a national number we'll publish that will combine San Antonio with the LA and CA rides.

The ride through the air base and slapping the hands of those trainees as they were cheering would have made the ride for me.

I rode an impromptu century this weekend with one other rider but without the correct nutrition we suffered towards the end, with only 10 miles to go. I made it, but a head wind on that last stretch took its toll. Cliff Bars and a smoothie just won't do it, I don't care what shape you're in.

John, I'm glad you had decent weather - I'd planned to go but it was raining at my house. So I had a fun-filled 4 hours spinning at the gym!
