Good morning/afternoon/evening and happy Wednesday/Thursday/Friday! (Once again, I'm sending this out early before folks scatter for the weekend...)
Due to inclement weather in Dallas Tuesday, my flight got cancelled and as a result, my conference in Frisco got rescheduled. So, I'm back in the building...
Training Rides This Week
There are two options this week for those of you maintaining a training schedule this summer.
Andrea Shull and her husband Chase (the proud owner of a new bike) will be riding on Thursday nights at 06:30 pm from Bullis County Park. They are joining up with Bicycle Heaven who do this casual, family friendly ride every week. New and intermediate riders are encouraged to join her, and kids are welcome (with adult supervision). Give Andrea a shout at andrea.shull@valero.com if you are interested.
The soon-to-be-retired Chuck "the Rock" Divelbiss will be leading our Saturday morning ride. This week, the group will be starting from Roger Soler's in Helotes at 07:30 pm. Click here to see our standard route map for this part of town; pace and distance will be determined based on who shows up.
You go, girl! - Kirstin does a 70.3 Half Ironman
Your teammates on Velo Valero are all incredible people (you know that!). Last weekend, Kirstin Silberschlag participated in her first 70.3 event, and finished an amazing 8th in her age group. The 70.3 is a "half Ironman" that consists of 1.2 miles of swimming, 56 miles on a bike, and a 13 mile run. Kirstin finished all this in a little over five and half hours! Check the MS 150 Roster
A number of people have contacted me over the last few weeks saying they signed up for the Valero MS 150 Bike to the Beach, but aren't on the roster for team Velo valero. If you registered, and aren't sure if you are on Velo Valero, check our roster at click here. If you aren't on the list, send an e-mail to Tony Ralph (TRALF@NMSSLONESTAR.org) and ask to be assigned to team Velo Valero.
SAW New Rider Program
I got a call from Sam at the San Antonio Wheelmen (SAW), and he told me the New Rider program is filling up fast. Send an e-mail to bikeeducation@sawheelmen.com if you are interested in joining. Space is limited - he told me there are only 6 slots left for the program starting 07/28 - so if you're interested, please contact them soon. After you complete the course, Velo Valero will offer 6 weeks of additional new rider events to prepare you for the Bike to the Beach! NOTE: Due to the popularity of the 07/28 program, they are planning another program later this year - I'll let you know as soon as the dates are announced. This program should start and end before the Bike to the Beach.
