I want to share with you an internal announcement made at Valero today. All Velo Valero members from across the country who rode or volunteered for Tour de Cure events can be proud of this accomplishment!
Valero employees can be proud of yet another fundraising record. With the completion of the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure bicycle ride in New Jersey this past weekend, Valero employees have taken part in four different Tour de Cure events this spring, raising a combined total of nearly $68,000 to find a cure for diabetes.
The ride this past weekend was the first time the Velo Valero bike team from the Paulsboro Refinery participated, but that didn't stop them from raising $3,460. All the way across the country, riders from the Wilmington Refinery - also participating in their first Tour de Cure - raised $6,750, and the Benicia team raised $17,000. In San Antonio, our corporate Velo Valero team collected $40,495 and received honors as the event's Top Fundraiser and Best Corporate Team for the third year in a row.
The American Diabetes Association also recognized San Antonio's David Sloan (who raised $7,535) and Seth McConnell (who raised $6,755) as the event's second- and third-highest individual fundraisers.
While the Velo Valero team members took to their bikes to raise money, the Tour de Cure rides couldn't have taken place without the many Valero Volunteers who helped organize and staff the events. Everyone involved should be proud of their hard work and dedication to this great cause.
