  • Tour de Cure News...

    Hello Velo Valero -

As you know, the 2006 Tour de Cure event is just around the corner, May 20-21 to be exact.  We really want to reach our goal of having 100 riders on the Velo Valero team. We are currently at 80....so we need you to register TODAY.

    REGISTRATION INCENTIVES
As in incentive to register now, I have 6 prizes to give out to the next 6 people who register. I have 2 FREE registrations, 2 FREE transportation tickets and 2 FREE overnight stays at the dorm.  Just go to the ADA website at:  diabetes.org/tour to register. Click on the FIND YOUR TOUR button, then scroll down to find "Texas" and then click on  "San Antonio" to get to our event.

Once you register, e-mail me your name to let me know what prize you would like.  The first 6 to respond will be our lucky winners.

If you know any friends or family that would like to ride but don't have a team, please invite them to ride with us.  We welcome all friends, family and community members to ride with us as long as fundraising commitments are met.

    FUNDRAISING

Speaking of fundraising, for those of you who already are registered, this is your friendly reminder that the time is NOW to start your fundraising. All riders are required to raise a minimum of $125.   If you have not yet set up your personal website, please make some time this weekend to do it. It is so easy and makes fundraising effortless.  I was able to meet my goal in just  2 weeks by sending e-mails to friends, family and colleagues.  Please let me know if you need help.  Just click here to access the tools on the ADA for complete instructions.

Remember, our team goal is $40,000. We are a little over half way there, with $24,881.

We have 2 Valero team members who are the top 2 fundraisers so far overall.  Congratulations to Seth McConnell ($6580) and David  Sloan ($5035) for their outstanding efforts. We are so proud of you both!  Thanks for your commitment to this important cause.

Finally, we are looking for a few good men and women to serve as Ride Marshalls for the Tour De Cure. Click here to see the program flyer for details and contact Walter Matich at (210) 345-4247 if you are interested.

Please let me know what questions you have.

    GO TEAM VELO VALERO!!!!!

    #1 Fundraisers....3 years running!   Let's make it 4!
  • Training Rides this Weekend

From John Tenison (John.Tenison@valero.com), Team Training Ride Coordinator:

Come out and ride with Velo Valero this weekend! The official training ride will be on Sunday - the Fiesta Wildflower Ride which starts at 8:00 AM at the Verizon Amphitheater. If you have not pre-registered, plan on arriving early - this event will be well attended. Wear your Velo Valero jersey if you have one.

For those who can't make Sunday's ride, there are other ride opportunities on Saturday. Stan Lear will be riding from Starbucks in Leon Springs, starting at 7:00 AM.

Donna Escobar has indicated that she will start from Floore's Country Store in Helotes at 8:00 AM.

And don't forget, summer has arrived early this year, so wherever you ride be sure to stay hydrated - a 16 oz bottle for every 10 miles is a good rule of thumb.

    Thanks,
    John
  • Results from Salsa, Upcoming Training Rides

    Good morning Velo Valero!

Don't forget that next weekend is Easter weekend, so we will NOT have a formal training ride.  However,  I would still encourage you to get out there and put some mileage in on your own.

Also, for anyone interested in seeing some Photos from last week's Hotter than Salsa Ride in Three Rivers, click here.

Congratulations to Eddie Cuevas and Kent Hamel who placed 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the 35 mile ride.  Thanks to everyone who drove down to Three Rivers to support the event. Despite the wind, it was a great time. Mark your calendars for first weekend in April next year!!

  • Time to order team apparel!

    Time to order team apparel!

    Step right up!

    San Antonio, TX - April 03, 2006 |

    Hello Velo Valerians!

Hope this finds you all enjoying your weekend!  Your votes have been tallied, the production company has us on their schedule and the Velo Valero apparel order form is officially "up" and operational on our website.

This is your official opportunity to purchase the NEW Velo Valero Jersey/Shorts for 2006.  We have a one week ordering window.  All orders must be received by Friday (4/7), 4:00 pm Central Standard Time.

I have received many questions about the expectations for apparel for the 2006 season.  For the Tour de Cure event in San Antonio, we are permitting team members to wear either last year's jersey/shorts or this year's.  If you do want new apparel in time for the Tour de Cure, you need to place your order now however, as we will not have another opportunity to order the new jerseys/shorts until August 2006.

If you are participating in the 2006 Valero MS 150 Bike to the Beach, Oct 7-8th, we are requiring that all riders have the NEW Jersey.  As was the rule last year, wearing the matching Velo Valero shorts is optional, but wearing shorts in general, is mandatory ( : } )  So depending on which events you are riding in, you can order apparel now, or wait until August.  It's your choice.

The final shorts and jersey designs are now on the website if you want to take one more look before deciding.

Special thanks to our very own Zora Bilicich for her incredible artistry and design work.  We are going to look amazing!!!  Another special thanks to Peter Ray and Shane Garza for their volunteer time in getting the website ready for the order process.

A few key things to know when ordering apparel:

Order larger sizes than what you normally wear. The apparel is sized according to European sizing charts.  In other words, it's smaller.  So be sure to order larger, not smaller.

    *  There are men's and women's cuts.  Men's jerseys are more narrow and long and shorts are a bit longer.  Women's shorts and jerseys are a bit shorter and more room in locations where we need it girls!

    *  You can order short sleeves or sleeveless jerseys.  You can order cycling shorts or bibbs (these are shorts with attached suspenders.  They look something like high school wrestling uniforms.  Great belly control!!!!  : } )

    *  If you want to order multiple jerseys in DIFFERENT sizes/genders, you must place separate orders.  They system will only allow you to order multiples of the SAME sized item.

    *  There are no returns.  We can try to sell apparel to other team members if it does not fit right, but this will be your responsibility to manage.

    *  There is no tax and or shipping charges.  The price shown is the final price.

    *  We cannot accept credit cards.  Unfortunately, we have no means of accepting credit cards and the production company want one check for the entire order.  We accept cash, checks and money orders.  Make checks or money orders payable to Velo Valero.

We need payment by 4/14.  Send  or drop off to mail station A2E-154 if a Valero Employee, otherwise mail to:

    Valero Energy Corporation
    Attn: Patricia Jones
    One Valero Way
    San Antonio, TX 78249-1616

Jerseys and shorts will be delivered /shipped early May prior to the Tour De Cure events in May and June.

If you have any questions, please call me at (210) 345-2500 or Stan Lear (210) 345-4228.

    Thanks!
